"Who is 3point8 and why does he want to know about my cup?"
---- 3point8 ----
---- 3point8 ----
Do you see the cup as half full or half empty? I once wrote an article about this [link]. A year later, I'm gonna revisit this subject today.
Often times, when this question is being asked, people can expect a reply that revolves around two personalities - either a pessimist or an optimist. As I grow wiser, I realised that there are more than that.
As of now, I came to realise that there are four types of people:
The blind who sees neither the cup nor the water.
The pessimist who sees the cup as half empty.
The optimist who sees the cup as half full.
The smart who sees the cup both half empty and half full.
Think about it, the blind has no idea what the hell is going on. We brand these people ignorant and ill-informed. When things happen to them, i doubt they'll even notice it.
The pessimist knew something was going on. As usual, only bad things happen them and when it does, they break down and ask: "Why me??? Why me??" "Curse you! Why'd you give me a billion dollars and then tax me a million?"
The optimist however rides the wind. Out of 100 events that happened in their life, each of them are a blessing. Cancer is the cure to all their disease, Bankruptcy is the answer to all their financial needs.
The smarts ones.... these are the slicky bastards. The take advantage of the pessimist, optimist and particularly the blind. They see more than just the cup and water. They see the blind, the optimist, the pessimist and other smart ones who are all staring at the cup.
All my life, there are times when I'm blind, there are times when I'm a pessimist and occasionally I'm fortunate to be an optimist. Among the four types of people, I want to be the smart one.
I haven't had the chance to be one yet, so I can't tell you how it feels to be one. But please do share your experience if you ever had the luck to meet such person. If they blogs, do intro their blog to me.

I used to be like you too, I see where you're coming from. Skipping in cliche introduction, straight to the point: The cup may be half full, half empty, fake, an illusion, made of glass, the prime attention or every other shit in the world, but the real matter being questioned here is our mind. Our mind is telling us the cup is there, and something needs to be heard by us from within. Our mind controls everything, just shut it off for a moment and suddenly the grass seems greener, the sky larger and the time slower. That's when we start living. It's not about the cup, it's about our mind controlling us.

I always see the cup as half full. I am very optimistic, maybe too optimistic. That can be dangerous sometimes
i change my opinions on a day to day basis.i guess i let my emotions control me.well,i would be the smart one too if i could but then again, most ppl are either opimistic or pessimistic.
Wish to add in another type of person - the liar.
The liar is by far the most powerful and destructive person ever found. He can show the blind, the pessimist the optimist and the smart one the things he wants them to see and believe. He's the ultimate manipulator. Most of the liars care only for their personal benefits. Therefore no matter the cup is full or empty, they will always get something out of nothing and everything.
I'm learningg to be this type of person... Hehehe...
hmmm i am probably in between pessimist and optimist ...
The cup is neither half full nor half empty, it is merely twice as big as it should be...
The truly smart people leverage everyone around them to gain favour.
Pessimism / optimism is just perception. Smart people just need to do a NLP to convert people into one of these to take advantage. :P
Optimism is not always good. Last time wall street was accused of being over optimistic and misleading investors to loose a lot of money.
I think the best perception to have is being objective.
Hi friend, I had to visit your blog and I found it great and if you feel free, you can visit my two blogs Nuclear mess in France and Global climate change
This is a good one :)
I've a friend who said:
pessimist + optimist = realist.
I don't hope to be the smart one though, like very cunning la taking advantage of other people. ;)
Can I just be the one who will fill more water in? :P
i do not see the cup as half full or half empty. LOL. serious.
Hahha
I think I see the cups..based on the type of the cup given.. XD
sometimes full sometimes half XD
I'm pretty much open to anything. The cup is just a perception.
Kif. Sorry to say that I don't kinda like the description for the blind part although the article is a good one. I understand what you mean with the word 'blind'. There are two types of blind.
"People who have eyes but can't see" - normal people with good eyes
"People who have no eyes but can see" - the real blind people.
I know you mean the formal one right? I have friends who are blind and I feel the description you made isn't that clear. Will make them feel that all blind is ignorant.
Have a nice day kif.. :)
well.. what i am more interested to know is that..are u wearing a B-cup or D-cup? heheh
The way I sees it. Just a cup filled with water...
A more appealing topic would be....
Chicken first or egg first...
Ahem....
=p
I choose all the answers... coz i kiasu...
Hmm, I am half "Smart-one" as I am more optimistic compared to pessimism ;p

Okays.. Now this is the part where i feel outcasted.. everyone's belonging in their respected category..
i alwez say, "It's not enough.." Now where does that place me? xD
haha i remember bringing up this question at the dining table once with a glass of chinese tea.. n jokingly, my sis gave this answer... "the glass is half full half empty if u look at it from the side.. it is full if u look at it straight frm the top, and if u turn it upside down, *action of taking glass n turning it upside down* then well its empty." a joke it was at first, but on further thought it all depends on which angle u look at a situation. I dont think there are four types of ppl, i think there are those 4 types within each of us. every1 of us is a bit of a pessimist, a bit of an optimist, sometimes blind, and sometimes smart too =)
I'm an optimist, but after reading your post, I've just turned smart! Haha!
[acura]
Well, as long as you feel positive, being in a dangerous situation doesn't sound bad eh?

I allow my logic control me. I rather my emotions take control
[ColourfulWorld]
LOL. Ah yes, I would brand the liars as smart ones since both of them manipulates and take advantage to people. But hey, that is a very good comment there. thanks
[Lisalicious]
Thats good. We should maintain a balance in all things, yes?
[SK]
Yes it is. And since the volume of the liquid in the cup is inconsistent, they should allow a safety factor of at least 4 and make the cup twice as big as it is, no?
[popjammerz]
Of course. In fact, we need more people like that in the world, people who can fill more water in.
[YiLing]
Oh....ok. WAnna share your viewpoint?
[Jian Akiraceo]
Ah...so it depends on the appearence of the cup. interesting
[Harmony]
Ohh....ok. I gotta learn form you someday
[curryegg]
Ah yes. By blind i mean ignorant. Its just a figure of speech, no offence intended. I hope you understand since you are aspiring to be a counselor, someone who understands.
[Anonymous]
Erm... I can wear both. :]
[Cometh]
Definitely egg 1st. no contest.
[Wilson Ng]
Ahaha... That is so freaking cool. Do tell me if you can do this consistently.
[永遇乐]
Hi smart one! Welcome to the club. ehehe
[Jordan]
Ah....yes that is true. Our mind indeed is controlling us. Question back to you is, can you control your mind?
[Jeffro]
well er....I would place you in between 'pessimist + optimist'. Nothing is ever enough. no negative and positive feeling is ever enough to satisfy you.
[MeiYi]
True. 4 types are within us. Question is: which one is more dominant?
[keeMan]
Oooo... drink from a bottle. This i gotta learn from the wise one.
[foonpc]
Congrats! Welcome to the club.
Haha.. of course Kif.
Don't worry. Of course I understand. Just to point out my view.
;)
[curryegg]
Thanks for contributing your viewpoint. I mean, it is always good to have feedback from people. Thanks.
I think, that you are mistaken. I can prove it. Write to me in PM, we will talk.
